Mediocrity

On our way back from Meredith's 10-year high school reunion, we stopped at Tower Records, mostly to pick up the extended version of The Two Towers. While we were there, we got Jonny Lang's the CD, "Long Time Coming", and the new "Let It Be... Naked" CD.

We listed to the Beatles album first. It's OK. Nothing very exciting. The whole idea is that it's a re-release of some of the old Beatles material with a bunch of the studio overdubs removed. It turns out that some of those overdubs and studio effects weren't all so bad.

The Jonny Lang CD is awful. It's like bad pop. We bought it because I loved his "Lie to Me" CD, but that was Blues, and this is ... not. I guess it's fine if you happen to like cheesy pop music.

I don't mean to be rude, but I think that you should give Jonny Lang another listen. Listen to his old albums and get to know him. I agree that his new album doesn't showcase his talent...but how can you blame him? He's had a rough few years and needs a hit so that the stupid record company doesn't drop him and stop him from being able to do what he loves. He is the ULTIMATE and has sooo much raw talent. I will NEVER stop being loyal to him and everything that he does because he is THE REAL THING. He loves music, and music makes people happy. How can you diss someone who lives to share what he loves with the rest of the world? He's putting his heart and soul out there...and it's the truest thing I have ever experienced. I love him because he has always shown me his heart, and I will defend that kind of sincerety to my grave. I am so proud to say that I have followed him from the beginning. He is quite possibly the most honest thing going in the world of music. What you hear is what he feels - all you have to do is watch him play to understand that. If the world came to an end tomorrow, Jonny Lang would be playing the blues on the fault line becuase he loves to play, not because anyone was paying him - and there's nowhere else I would EVER want to spend my last moments than with someone who has that much dedication and love for what he does.He works so hard, and he deserves the utmost respect. Young people in this country live in a time where it seems like we have nothing to trust because nothing is real - everyone is just trying to sell us something. Jonny Lang isn't selling you anything. He is the middle finger that we all wish we could point at American Media. For that reason alone I will always support him, because to me he represents honesty and independence. And that kids, is the definition of a genuine BADASS.
